Hey - It's me again. I am up editing term papers as usual and the one I am editing right now is very interesting. It is a paper from a student at an East Coast powerhouse school and it is very well drafted. It is about the new expansion of powers following the creation of the Homeland Security department. It seems that there are a bunch of new types of technology that they can use to check up on people.
Did you know that your having a cell phone right now can work to Uncle Sam's advantage. Apparently, all relatively new cellphones have a computer and microphone in them. The microphone acts to pick up and transmit your voice to the person on the other end. However, now it seems that the government can activate the mic on anyone's cell phone without them knowing! this means that they no longer have to worry about "bugging people" because we are already effectively bugged by their access to our cell phones. These are truly scary times lol. Like Dylan said...The times..they are a-changin. While it is scary enough that they may be listening to people's actual calls, this technology allows them access to the surrounding environment. This is because they can activate the mic and listen to what people are talking about within earshot of the phone - even when it is off! The FBI announced not too long ago that they got John Ardito and his attorney Peter Peluso by activating their cellphones and eavesdropping on people talking to them and in their vicinity. While this technology does hold the prospect of having anti-terrorism capabilities, it certainly stretches the boundaries of individual civil liberties and the right to privacy.Labels: anti. terrorism, cell, editing, government, papers, phone, tap, term |
